Welcome to ThePhilosopher.net !
In ancient Athens the people used to debate in public places like the forum or the agora. The Romans favored public baths. Both had a culture of thought and philosophy, science and art. Great names and works from those times were passed down through millenia and the people who bore those names spoke their words in those places. What of today?
Nowadays technology allows a great many things and many great things. Communication exists under a myriad of forms: mail, email, phone, blogging, social networks, twitter, instant chats and others. But as you can see, much of those can be grouped under the banner of Internet. The Internet is an amazing space, boiling with knowledge: online encyclopediae, countless websites about each and every subject. I think the Internet is today’s agora.
Where better then to set up a blog for generally curious people who often ponder life’s grandest questions? And this is how ThePhilosoper.net was born!
Think of it as a place you can visit whenever you feel like it, whenever you have an interesting thought you’d like to share. With your coffee in the morning to add a bit of food for thought to your breakfast after an inspiring event or when a good book and a glass of wine (or spirits for the real men) storke you r inetellectual side.
Be it philosophy, technology, a striking piece of news, art, music, movies or the economy, anything and everything is at liberty to discuss. The goal of this blog is to promote debate and provoke thought. Every opinion deserves to be spoken, but please do so in a considerate way.
Bad language, insults, hate and racism aren’t constructive and will not be tolerated. If you feel so strongly about something that you’d insult anyone who disagrees, you must have a good reason. How about writing that down instead? It might get your interlocutor to see some of your points, even if you have diametrically oposed opinions.
That said, I warmly welcome you to ThePhilosopher.net and hope you enjoy the blog!
