of the house of the LORD, from twenty years old and upward.
  • For David said, The LORD God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, and will dwell at Jerusalem for ever.
  • And among the Levites also were numbered the sons of Levi from twenty years old and upward, that they should not bear the tabernacle with all the vessels of their service, 27. but according to the last words of David,
  • That they should stand under the hand of the children of Aaron, to minister in the house of the LORD, in the court, and in the treasuries, and in the washing, and in all the sanctuary, and in all the work of the service of the house of GOD.
  • And for shewbread, and for fine flour, and for a meat offering, and for unleavened cakes, and for a pan, and for roasting, and for every weight and measure;
  • And to stand in the morning, to give thanks, and to praise the LORD; in the evening also; 31. And to offer all the burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the sabbaths, and upon the new moons, and upon the feasts, according to the number thereof, and according to the charge thereof, before the LORD,
  • That they may keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and of the sanctuary, and of the sons of Aaron their brethren, to minister in the house of the LORD.

    Chapter 25 (otherwise 24th)
    Chiefs in the sanctuary and their servants.
  • But this was the order of the children of Aaron. The children of Aaron were: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
  • But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children. And Eleazar and Ithamar became priests.
  • And David numbered them, Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their number and station.
  • And more of the sons of Eleazar were found to be mighty men of valour than of the sons of Ithamar. And he made them sixteen of the sons of Eleazar captains of their fathers’ house, and eight of the sons of Ithamar captains of their fathers’ house.
  • And he set them in order by lot, that both of the sons of Eleazar and of Ithamar should be captains in the sanctuary, and captains before God.
  • And Shemaiah the scribe, the son of Nethaneel, of the Levites, described them before the king, and before the princes, and before Zadok the priest, and before Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and before the chief fathers among the priests and Levites; namely, one father’s house for Eleazar, and the other for Ithamar.
  • And the first lot fell upon Jehoiarib, and the other upon Jedaiah, 8. the third on Hamm, the fourth on Seorim,
  • The fifth to Malchiah, and the sixth to Mejamin,
  • The seventh to Hakoz, the eighth to Abia,
  • The ninth to Jesua, the tenth to Shechaniah;
  • The eleventh to Eliasib, and the twelfth to Jakim,
  • The thirteenth on Hupa, the fourteenth on Jesebeab,
  • the fifteenth on Bilga, the sixteenth on Immer,
  • the seventeenth on Hesir, the eighteenth on Hapizez,
  • The nineteenth to Pethahiah, and the twentieth to Jeheskel,
  • The twenty-first on Jachin, the twenty-second on Gamul,
  • the twenty-third to Delaiah, the twenty-fourth to Maasia.
  • This is their order according to their service, to go into the house of the LORD after their manner under Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel commanded them.
  • And of the rest of the sons of Levi, of the sons of Amram, was Shubael. And of the sons of Zubael was Jehdea.
  • The first of the sons of Rehabiah was Jeziah.
  • But among the Jezeharites was Slomoth. Among the children of Slomoth was Jahath.
  • The children of Hebron were: Jena the first, Amariah the second, Jahesiel the third, Jakmeam the fourth.
  • The children of Uzziel were Micah. Among the children of Micah was Samir.
  • The brother of Micah was Jeziah. Among the children of Isaiah was Zechariah.
  • And the sons of Merari were: Maheli and Musi, whose son was Jaesiah.
  • And the sons of Merari by Jaeshiah his son were: Soham, Sakur and Ibri.
  • And Maheli had Eleazar; for he had no sons.
  • from Kis. The children of Kish were: Jerahmeel.
  • The children of Musi were: Maheli, Eder, and Jerimoth. These are the children of the Levites under their fathers’ house.
  • And they cast lots for them also, beside their brethren the sons of Aaron, before king David, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the least of the brethren, and the chief of the fathers.

    Chapter 26 (otherwise 25th)
    Order of the holy singers.
  • And David and the captains of the host separated the prophets from among the sons of Asaph, and Heman, and Jeduthun, with harps, and psalteries, and cymbals: and they were numbered for the work according to their ministration.
  • Of the sons of Assaph: Zacur, Joseph, Nethaniah, Azarela, sons of Assaph, of Assaph, which prophesied with the king.
  • From Jedithun. The children of Jedithun were: Gedaliah, and Zori, and Jesaiah, and Hashabiah, and Mathithiah, the six of them under Jedithun their father, with harps prophesying to give thanks and praise unto the LORD.
  • From Heman. The children of Heman were: Bukiah, Mathaniah, Uzziel, Zebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Eliatha, Gidalthi, Romamthi-eser, Jazbekasa, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahesioth.
  • These were all the children of Heman, the king’s shaker in the words of GOD to lift up the horn; for GOD had given Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
  • These were all of their fathers, Assaph, Jedithun, and Heman, to sing in the house of the LORD with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, after the service of the house of GOD with the king.
  • And the number of them, and of their brethren that were instructed in the song of the LORD, all of them masters, were two hundred fourscore and eight.
  • And they cast lots for their office at once, both for the least and for the greatest, for the teacher and for the pupil.
  • And the first lot fell upon Joseph from among Asaph. And the second lot fell upon Gedaliah, and upon his brethren, and upon his sons, which were twelve.
  • The third to Sakur, and his sons, and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The fourth to Jezri, and his sons, and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The fifth to Nethaniah, and to his sons, and to his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The sixth to Bukiah, and his sons, and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The seventh to Jezreelah, and his sons and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • And the eighth, Isaiah, and his sons, and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The ninth to Jonathan, and to his sons, and to his brethren, which were twelve.
  • And the tenth to Shimei, and to his sons, and to his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The eleventh to Azareel, and his sons, and his brethren, were twelve.
  • The twelfth to Hashabiah, and to his sons, and to his brethren: they were twelve.
  • And the thirteenth to Subael, and his sons, and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The fourteenth to Mathithiah, and to his sons, and to his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The fifteenth to Jeremoth, and his sons, and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The sixteenth to Hananiah, and to his sons, and to his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The seventeenth to Jazbekasa, and his sons, and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The eighteenth to Hanani, and his sons, and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The nineteenth to Mallothi, and his sons, and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • And the twentieth to Eliatha, and to his sons, and to his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The twenty and first to Hothir, and to his sons, and to his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The twenty and second to Gidalthi, and his sons, and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The twenty and third to Mahesioth, and his sons, and his brethren, which were twelve.
  • The four and twentieth of Romamthiezer, and his sons and his brethren, which were twelve.

    Appointment of goalkeepers, treasurers and judges.
  • Of the order of the keepers of the gate. Among the Korhites was Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the children of Assaph.
  • And the sons of Meshelemiah were these; the firstborn Zechariah, the second Jediael, the third Zebadiah, the fourth Jathniel,
  • the fifth Elam, the sixth Johanan, the seventh Elioenai.
  • And the sons of Obededom were these; Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Zechariah the fourth, Nethaneel the fifth,
  • the sixth Ammiel, the seventh Issachar, the eighth Pegulthai; for GOD had blessed him.
  • And unto Shemaiah his son were sons also born, that reigned in the house of their fathers: for they were mighty men of valour.
  • Now the sons of Shemaiah; Athni, and Rephael, and Obed, and Elzabad, whose brethren were diligent men, Elihu, and Samachiah.
  • These were all of the sons of Obededom: they and their sons and their brethren, all men of valour, skilled in the work of the ministry, were threescore and two of Obededom.
  • And Meshelemiah had children, and brethren, industrious men, eighteen.
  • And Hosah of the sons of Merari had children: the chiefest Zimri (for the firstborn was not there; therefore his father made him chief),
  • The second Hilkiah, the third Tebaliah, the fourth Zechariah. All the sons and brethren of Hosah were thirteen.
  • This is the order of the porters among the chief of the mighty in the ministry, beside their brethren, to minister in the house of the LORD.
  • And the lot was cast, both to the small and to the great, under the house of their fathers, unto every gate.
  • And the lot toward the east fell upon Meshelemiah: but unto Zechariah his son, who was a wise counsellor, the lot was cast, and fell upon him toward the north; 15. And Obededom toward the south, and his sons, by the house of Esupim;
