idle, idle ye are: therefore say ye, We will go and sacrifice unto the LORD.
  • Go ye therefore, and indulge yourselves. They shall not give you straw, but the number of the bricks ye shall give.
  • And the officers of the children of Israel saw that it was worse, because it was said, Ye shall not diminish any of the day’s work of the bricks.
  • And when they departed from Pharaoh, they met Moses and Aaron, and stood against them.
  • And they said unto them: The LORD look upon you, and judge it, that ye have made our smell to stink before Pharaoh and his servants, and have put the sword into their hands to slay us.
  • And Moses came again unto the LORD, and said, O LORD, why doest thou this evil unto this people? Why hast thou sent me hither?
  • For since I went in unto Pharaoh to speak unto him in thy name, he hath afflicted the people more severely; and thou hast not delivered thy people.
    Ch. 6, v. 1: And the LORD said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do unto Pharaoh: for by a strong hand he must let them go, he must drive them out of his land by a strong hand.

    Chapter 6
    Moses gets a new command from God; describes his birth record.
  • And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD,
  • And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, to be their Almighty God: but my name, O LORD, was not manifested unto them.
  • Also I have established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.
  • And I have heard the lamentation of the children of Israel, which the Egyptians have afflicted with indulgence; and I have remembered my covenant.
  • Therefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and will bring you out from your burdens in Egypt, and will deliver you from your afflictions, and will redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments;
  • And I will receive you for a people, and will be your God, and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which have brought you up out of the burdens of Egypt.
  • And have brought you into the land which I have lifted up mine hand to give unto Abraham, and to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an inheritance, even I the LORD.
  • Moses told these things unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto him for groaning, and for fear, and for hard labour.
  • And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying:
  • Go in and speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel out of his land.
  • And Moses spake before the LORD, saying, Behold, the children of Israel hear me not: how then shall Pharaoh hear me? For I am of uncircumcised lips.
  • So the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, and commanded them the children of Israel, and Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt.
  • These are the heads of every generation of the fathers. The children of Reuben, the first son of Israel, are these: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, Charmi. These are the families of Reuben.
  • The sons of Simeon are these: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Saul the son of the Canaanite woman: these are the families of Simeon.
  • These are the names of the sons of Levi in their families; Gershon, Kohath, Merari. But Levi was an hundred and thirty and seven years old.
  • The children of Gershon are these: Libni and Simei in their generations.
  • The sons of Kohath are these: Amram, Jezear, Hebron, Uzziel. And Kohath was an hundred thirty and three years old.
  • the children of Merari are these: Maheli and Musi. These are the families of Levi in their
    tribes.
  • And Amram took Jochebed his wife, and she bare him Aaron and Moses. And Amram was an hundred thirty and seven years old.
  • The children of Jezear are these: Korah, Nepheg, Sichri.
  • The children of Uzziel are these: Misael, Elzaphan, Sithri.
  • And Aaron took to wife Eliseba the daughter of Amminadab, Nahasson’s sister: and she bare him Nadab, and Abihu, and Eleazar, and Ithamar.
  • The sons of Korah are these: Assir, Elkanah, Abiasaph. These are the families of the Korahites.
  • And Eleazar Aaron’s son took of the daughters of Putiel a wife, and she bare him Phinehas.
    These are the heads of the fathers of the families of the Levites.
  • This is Aaron and Moses, unto whom the LORD said, Bring forth the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt with their armies.
  • These are they which spake unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt, even Moses and Aaron.
  • And the LORD spake unto Moses that day in the land of Egypt.
  • And said unto him, I am the LORD: speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I speak unto thee.
  • And he answered before the LORD, Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips: how then will Pharaoh hear me?

    Chapter 7
    Turning water into blood.
  • And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, I have set thee a god over Pharaoh; and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.
  • Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: but Aaron thy brother shall speak it before Pharaoh, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.
  • But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and will shew my signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.
  • And Pharaoh shall not hear you, that I may shew my hand in Egypt, and bring my host, my people, the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.
  • And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out mine hand upon Egypt, and take away the children of Israel from them.
  • And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them.
  • And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron eighty and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.
  • And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron:
  • When Pharaoh shall say unto you: Prove your wonders, then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, that it may become a serpent.
  • And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and did as the LORD commanded them. And Aaron cast his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants; and it became a serpent.
  • Then Pharaoh called for the wise men and the magicians. And the Egyptian magicians also did so with their summoning.
  • And every man cast his rod from him, and serpents came out of him: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods.
  • So Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and hearkened not unto them, as the LORD had said.
  • And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh’s heart is hard; he refuseth to let the people go.
  • Go unto Pharaoh to morrow. Behold, he shall go unto the waters: stand thou against him by the riverside, and take in thine hand the rod that became a serpent, 16. And say unto him, The LORD God of the Eberians hath sent me unto thee, saying, Leave my people, that they may serve me in the wilderness. But thou hast not hearkened hitherto.
  • Therefore thus saith the LORD; By this shalt thou know that I am the LORD. Behold, with the rod that is in mine hand will I smite the waters that are in the river, and they shall be turned into blood,
  • And the fishes shall die in the river, and the river shall stink, and the Egyptians shall be disgusted to drink of the water of the river.
  • And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch forth thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their brooks, and upon their rivers, and upon their lakes, and upon all the rivers of water, that they may become blood, and be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.
  • And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, and took up the staff, and smote the waters that were in the river before Pharaoh and his servants. And all the water that was in the river was turned into blood.
  • And the fish died in the river, and the river stank, that the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river: and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.
  • And the Egyptian magicians also did so with their conjurings. So Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and hearkened not unto them, as the LORD had said.
  • And Pharaoh turned himself, and went home, and took it not to heart.
  • But all the Egyptians digged for water round about the river to drink: for of the water of the river they could not drink.
  • And it continued seven days, that the LORD smote the river.

    Chapter 8
    Egypt is plagued with frogs, lice and vermin.
  • And the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Suffer my people to serve me.
  • If thou refuse, behold, I will plague all thy border with frogs, 3. And the river shall swarm with frogs: they shall creep up, and come into thine house, and into thy chamber, and into thy bed, and into the houses of thy servants, and among thy people, and into thy ovens, and into thy doughs;
  • And the frogs shall crawl upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants.
  • And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the rivers, and over the streams, and over the lakes, and let frogs come upon the land of Egypt.
