manner of beasts may lie in the earth in winter.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the people which is torn and spoiled, which is more abominable than any other, which is here and there measured out and trodden down, whose land is taken by the rivers of waters, shall bring gifts unto the LORD of hosts unto the place where the name of the LORD of hosts is, unto mount Zion.

Chapter 19
Destruction and.. Conversion of the Egyptians.

This is the burden of Egypt: Behold, the LORD shall ride upon a swift cloud, and come into Egypt. Then shall the idols of Egypt tremble before him, and the Egyptians’ hearts shall wax faint in their flesh.

And I will set the Egyptians against one another; and brother shall fight against brother, and friend against friend, and city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.

And the courage of the Egyptians among them shall perish, and their devices shall be destroyed. Then shall they ask their idols, and their priests, and their diviners, and their interpreters of signs.

But I will deliver the Egyptians into the hand of cruel lords; and a fierce king shall reign over them, saith the LORD of hosts.

And the waters of the seas shall dry up, and the river shall dry up and disappear.

And the waters shall run down, and the lakes shall be few and dry at the dams, and the reeds and the cane shall wither away,

And the grass by the waters shall die, and all the seed by the waters shall wither and come to nothing.

And the fishermen shall mourn; and all they that cast fishing-rods into the water shall mourn; and they that let down their nets into the water shall be grieved.

They shall stand with shame that work good yarn, and knit nets.

And they that have ponds, and all they that make ponds for wages, shall be troubled.

The princes of Zoan are fools; the wise counsellors of Pharaoh are become fools in the council. What say ye of Pharaoh, I am the child of the wise, and come of ancient kings?

Where then are thy wise men? Let them tell thee, and shew thee what the LORD of hosts hath decreed for Egypt.

But the princes of Zoan are fools, the princes of Noph are deceived: they deceive with Egypt the cornerstone of the families.

For the LORD hath poured out a spirit of deceit among them, to deceive Egypt in all their doings, as a drunken man staggereth when he drinketh.

And Egypt shall have nothing that beareth head, or tail, or branch, or stump.

In that day shall Egypt be as women, and shall fear and be afraid, when the LORD of hosts shall stretch forth his hand upon her.

And Egypt shall be afraid of the land of Judah: and he that remembereth it shall be afraid of it, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he hath determined against them.

In that day shall five cities of the land of Egypt speak after the language of Canaan, and swear by the LORD of hosts. One shall be called Irheres.

In that day shall the altar of the LORD be in the midst of the land of Egypt, and the mark of the LORD in the borders thereof,

Which shall be a sign and a witness unto the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt. For they shall cry unto the LORD in the presence of the insulters; and he shall send them a Saviour and a Master to deliver them.

For the LORD shall be known unto the Egyptians: and the Egyptians shall know the LORD
in that day, and shall serve him with sacrifice and meat offering, and shall vow unto the LORD, and keep the vow.

And the LORD shall afflict the Egyptians, and heal them: for they shall turn unto the LORD, and he shall be entreated, and heal them.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that there shall be a course from Egypt into Assyria, that the Assyrians shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptians into Assyria; and the Egyptians with the Assyrians shall serve God.

In that day shall Israel be third with the Egyptians and Assyrians by the blessing that shall be upon the earth.

For the LORD of hosts shall bless them, saying: Blessed art thou, O Egypt, my people; and thou, O Assyria, the work of my hands; and thou, O Israel, my inheritance.

Chapter 20
The Egyptian and Moor’s prison.

In the year that Tartan came to Ashdod, when Sargon king of Assyria had sent him, he fought against Ashdod, and took them,

At that time the LORD spake by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go, take off thy sackcloth from off thy loins, and put off thy shoes from off thy feet. And he did so, walking naked and barefooted.

And the LORD said, As my servant Isaiah goeth naked and barefooted for a sign and for a wonder of three years over Egypt and over the land of Moor,

So shall the king of Assyria drive captive Egypt, and drive out the land of the Moors, both young and old, naked and barefooted, with naked shame, to the shame of Egypt.

And they shall be afraid, and shall stand in shame upon the land of the Moors, whereon they trusted, and again the land of the Moors upon the Egyptians, whom they boasted of.

And the inhabitants of these isles shall say in that day, Is this our hope, when we fled for help, that we might be delivered from the king of Assyria? How well we have escaped!

This is the burden of the wilderness by the sea: as the weather cometh from the south, and turneth all things, so cometh it out of the wilderness, out of a cruel land.

For a stern face is shewed me. One despiser cometh against another, one disturber against another. Show up, Elam; prove them, Madai! I will make an end of all his sighing.

Therefore my loins are full of pain, and fear hath taken hold upon me, as a woman in childbirth: I bow down when I hear it, and am afraid when I look upon it.

My heart trembles, horror hath terrified me; I have no rest from it in the dear night.

Yea, prepare a table, let watch in the waiting place, eat, drink; arise, ye princes, smear the shield.

For thus saith the LORD unto me, Go, set a watchman to watch and to tell.

And he seeth riders riding, and going on horses, and asses, and camels, and hath respect unto them with great diligence.

And a lion cried: Lord, I stand upon the watch by day, and stand upon my guard by night.

And, behold, there cometh one riding in a chariot, which answereth and saith, Babylon is fallen, she is fallen, and all the images of her gods are cast down to the ground.

My good threshingfloor, whereon I thresh: that which I have heard of the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, I declare unto you.

This is the burden of Duma. They cry unto me from Seir, O keeper, is the night almost gone?
O keeper, is the night almost gone?

And the keeper said, Though the morning come, yet shall it be night. Though ye ask, yet shall ye come again, and ask again:

This is the burden of Arabia: ye shall dwell in the forest of Arabia, by the way of Dedanim.

Bring water to the thirsty, ye that dwell in the land of Thema; offer bread to the fugitives.

For they flee from the sword, yea, from the naked sword, from the bended bow, from the great battle.

For thus saith the LORD unto me, In one year, as the years of the hired servant, shall all the glory of Kedar perish,

And the remnant of the captains of the guard of Kedar shall be less: for the LORD God of Israel hath spoken it.

This is the burden of the valley of the shews: what is the matter with you, that ye all run upon the housetops?

Thou wast full of sound, a city of people, a joyful city. Thy slain are not slain with the sword, nor died in strife,

But all thy captains are fled before the bow, and are taken: all that were found in thee are taken, and fled far away.

Therefore I say, Lift up yourselves from me, let me weep bitterly; trouble not yourselves to comfort me over the destruction of the daughter of my people.

For it is a day of tumult, and of destruction, and of confusion, from the LORD of hosts in the valley of the rock, because of the pulling down of the walls, and the crying of the mountain.

For Elam cometh with quiver, and with chariots, and with men, and with horsemen; and Kir shineth with shields.

And it shall come to pass, that thy chosen valleys shall be full of chariots, and horsemen shall lie down before the gates.

And the veil of Judah shall be uncovered, and in that day shall be seen the stuff of the house of the forest.

And ye shall see many breaches in the city of David, and shall gather the waters into the lower pool.

Ye shall also number the houses of Jerusalem; yea, ye shall break down the houses to fortify the walls.

And ye shall make a trench between the two walls of the waters of the old pool. Ye shall not yet look upon him that doeth these things, neither shall ye look upon him that maketh them from afar.
