Luther Bible 1545 (English)
and the flock shall be scattered: then will I turn mine hand unto the little ones.
  • And it shall come to pass, that in the land, saith the LORD, there shall be two parts: they shall be cut off, and perish; and the third part shall be left in.
  • And I will bring that third part through the fire, and purify it as silver is purified, and sweep it as gold is swept. And they shall call upon my name, and I will hear them. I will say, It is my people; and they shall saw: O LORD my God!
    (Zechariah)
    Chapter 14
Christ King and Patron of His Church.
  • Behold, the time cometh unto the LORD, that they shall divide thy spoil within thee.
  • For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle. And the city shall be taken, and the houses spoiled, and the women ravished: and half of the city shall be carried away captive, and the remnant of the people shall not be cut off out of the city.
  • But the LORD will go forth, and fight against these nations, as he is wont to fight in the time of war.
  • And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem eastward. And the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst from the going up even unto the going down, very far apart: and the half of the mount shall be about the north, and the half of the mount shall be about the south.
  • And ye shall flee from that valley between my mountains: for the valley between the mountains shall be nigh unto Azal: and ye shall flee, as ye fled before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then shall the LORD my God come, and all the saints with thee.
  • In those days there shall be no light, but cold and frost.
  • And there shall be a day known unto the LORD, neither day nor night. And the evening shall be light.
  • In that day shall fresh waters flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the sea eastward, and half of them toward the uttermost part of the sea: and they shall continue both summer and winter.
  • And the LORD shall be king over all the earth. In that day shall the LORD be one, and his name one.
  • And they shall go round about all the land, as upon a plain, from Gibeah to Rimon, toward Jerusalem southward. For it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in the place thereof, from the gate of Benjamin unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king’s winepress.
  • And they shall dwell within, and there shall be no more banishment: for Jerusalem shall dwell in safety.
  • And this shall be the plague, that the LORD shall afflict all nations which have fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall rot, and they shall stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall rot in their holes, and their tongue shall rot in their mouths.
  • In that day shall the LORD make a great tumult among them, and one shall take another by the hand, and lay his hand upon another’s hand.
  • For Judah also shall fight against Jerusalem, and the goods of all the nations that are round about shall be gathered together: Gold, and silver, and garments exceeding abundant.
  • And this plague shall come upon horses, and upon mouths, and upon camels, and upon asses, and upon all manner of beasts that are in the same host with them which are plagued.
  • And all the remnant of all the nations that went against Jerusalem shall come up yearly to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.
  • But what generation on earth shall not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King of hosts, the LORD of hosts, it shall not rain upon them.
  • And if the generation of the Egyptians come not up, neither shall it rain upon them. This shall be the plague, that the LORD may afflict all the heathen, which come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
  • For this shall be the sin of the Egyptians, and of all the heathen, which come not up to keep the feast of tabernacles.
  • In that day shall the armour of the horses be holy unto the LORD: and the caldrons of the house of the LORD shall be as the laver before the altar.
  • For all the caldrons, both of Jerusalem and of Judah, shall be holy unto the LORD of hosts: and all that offer shall come and take them, and boil in them. And there shall be no more Canaanites in the house of the LORD of hosts in that day.

    The prophet Malachi (Malachi) ^
    Chapter 1
Punishment of ingratitude against God’s love.
  • This is the burden which the LORD speaketh against Israel by Malachi.
  • I love you, saith the LORD. Say ye, Wherewith lovest thou us? Is not Esau Jacob’s brother?
saith the LORD; neither have I loved Jacob.
  • And hated Esau, and made his mountains desolate, and his inheritance a desolation to the dragon.
  • And if Edom shall say: We are ruined, but we will build again the wilderness: thus saith the LORD of hosts; If they build, I will destroy: and it shall be called the condemned border, and a people against whom the LORD is wroth for ever.
  • This shall your eyes see, and shall say, The LORD is glorious in the borders of Israel.
  • A son shall honour his father, and a servant his lord. Am I then father, where is my honour?
Am I lord, where do men fear me? saith the LORD of hosts unto you priests that despise my name. Say ye, Wherewithal do we despise thy name?
  • In that ye offer unclean bread upon mine altar. Then say ye, Wherewithal do we offer unclean things unto thee? With this ye say, The LORD’S table is despised.
  • And if ye offer the blind, it shall not be called evil: neither if ye offer the lame, or the sick, it shall not be called evil. Bring it to your prince. What matter if thou please him, or if he regard thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
  • Pray ye therefore God that he may be gracious unto us. For these things are done of you.
Think ye that he will look upon your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.
  • Who is there among you that shutteth a door? Ye kindle no fire upon mine altar in vain. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts; and the meat offering of your hands is not acceptable unto me.
  • But from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be magnified among the heathen: and in every place incense shall be burned unto my name, and a pure meat offering offered: for my name shall be magnified among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.
  • But ye profane it, saying, The LORD’S table is unholy, and his sacrifice is despised with his meat.
  • And ye say, Behold, it is but trouble; and ye cast it to the winds, saith the LORD of hosts.
And ye offer the spoiled, and the lame, and the sick, and then offer meat offerings. Shall these things please me at your hand? saith the LORD.
  • Cursed be the man of advantage that hath a male in his flock, and when he voweth a vow, he offereth an unprofitable one unto the LORD. For I am a great king, saith the LORD of hosts; and my name is terrible among the heathen.
    (Malachi)
    Chapter 2
Sermon against the sins of the priests and the people.
  • And now, ye priests, this commandment is for you.
  • If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, then will I send a curse upon you, and curse your blessing; yea, I will curse it, because ye will not lay it to heart.
  • Behold, I will rebuke you with the seed, and will cast the dung of your feasts in your faces, and it shall cleave unto you.
  • Then ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that it should be my covenant with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.
  • For my covenant was with him for life and peace: and I gave him the fear, that he might fear me, and put my name in awe.
  • The law of truth was in his mouth, and no evil was found in his lips. He walked peaceably and uprightly before me, and converted many from sin.
  • For the lips of the priest shall keep the doctrine, to seek the law out of his mouth: for he is an angel of the LORD of hosts.
  • But ye are gone out of the way, and have offended many in the law, and have broken the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.
  • Therefore have I also made you to be despised and worthless before all the people, because ye have not kept my ways, and have looked upon persons in the law.
  • For have we not all one Father? Did not one God create us? Why then do we despise one another, and profane the covenant made with our fathers?
  • For Judah is become a despiser, and abominations are done in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD, which he loveth, and hath trifled with the daughter of a strange god.
  • But the LORD shall cut off him that doeth these things out of the tabernacle of Jacob, both
