Luther Bible 1545 (English)
master and pupil, and him that offereth meat offerings unto the LORD of hosts.
And ye also do this, that before the altar of the LORD there is weeping and weeping and groaning, that I cannot look upon the meat offering, nor receive any good thing at your hands.
And ye say, Wherefore is this? Because the LORD hath put between thee and the wife of thy youth, whom thou despisest, when she is thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
So the one did not, and yet was of a great spirit. But what did the one do? He sought the seed of God. Therefore beware of your spirit, and let no man despise the wife of his youth.
But let him that hateth her depart, saith the LORD God of Israel, and let him give her a covering of iniquity out of his garment, saith the LORD of hosts. Therefore beware of your spirit, and despise her not.
Ye make the LORD displeased by your words. Say ye, Wherewith shall we make him displeased? By this ye say, He that doeth evil pleaseth the LORD, and delighteth in him: or, Where is the LORD that punisheth?
(Malachi)
Chapter 3
Prophecy of John and Christ and of both ministries.
(Epistle on the day of Mary’s purification.)
Behold, I will send my angel, which shall prepare the way before me. And soon shall come to his temple the LORD whom ye seek, and the angel of the covenant whom ye desire. Behold, he cometh, saith the LORD of hosts.
But who shall endure the day of his coming, and who shall stand when he shall appear? For he is as the fire of a goldsmith, and as the soap of washers.
He shall sit and melt, and purify the silver: he shall purify the children of Levi, and purify them as gold and silver. Then shall they bring meat offerings unto the LORD in righteousness,
And the meat offering of Judah and Jerusalem shall be acceptable unto the LORD, as it was before, and as it was many years ago.
And I will come unto you, and will punish you, and be a swift witness against sorcerers, and adulterers, and perjurers, and against them that do violence and wrong to the hireling, and to the widow, and to the fatherless, and that oppress the stranger, and fear me not, saith the LORD of hosts.
For I am the LORD that lieth not. And it shall not be utterly finished with you children of Jacob.
Ye have departed from my commandments from your fathers’ days, and have not kept them: Turn ye therefore unto me, and I will turn unto you also, saith the LORD of hosts. Say ye, Wherein shall we return?
Is it lawful for a man to deceive God, as ye deceive me? Say ye, Wherewith do we deceive thee? In tithes and heave offerings.
Therefore are ye also cursed, that all things should pass out of your hands: for ye all deceive me.
But bring ye all the tithes into my storehouse, that there may be meat in my house: and try me in this, saith the LORD of hosts, whether I will not open unto you the windows of heaven, and pour down blessings in abundance.
And I will rebuke the devourer for you, that he destroy not the fruit of the field, and that the vine of the field be not unfruitful unto you, saith the LORD of hosts, 12. That all nations may call you blessed: for ye shall be a goodly land, saith the LORD of hosts.
Ye speak hard against me, saith the LORD. Say ye, Why speak we against thee?
That ye should say, It is vain to serve God; and, What profit is it to keep his commandment?
What profit is it that we keep his commandment, and live hard before the LORD of hosts?
Therefore we praise the rejecters, because the wicked increase; they tempt God, and all things go well out of them.
But the godly comfort one another, saying, The LORD heareth and heareth: and before him is a memorial written for them that fear the LORD, and remember his name.
They shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in the day that I make them; and I will spare
them, as a man spareth his son that serveth him.
And again ye shall see what manner of difference there is between the righteous and the wicked, and between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
(Malachi)
Chapter 4
Of Christo and John the Baptist.
For, behold, a day cometh, which shall burn as an oven; and all the rejecters and the wicked shall be straw, and the day that is to come shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, and shall leave them neither root nor branch.
But unto you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise, and salvation under the wings thereof; and ye shall go forth and come in, and wax as fatlings.
Ye shall tread down the wicked: for they shall be ashes under your feet in the day that I will make, saith the LORD of hosts.
Remember the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded him in mount Horeb unto all Israel, with the commandments and the statutes.
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet, before the great and terrible day of the LORD
come.
Who shall turn the heart of the fathers unto the children, and the heart of the children unto their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

All the members from Abraham even unto David are fourteen members. From David unto the Babylonish captivity are fourteen members. From the Babylonian captivity unto Christ are fourteen members.
Now the birth of Christ was thus done. And it came to pass, when Mary his mother had trusted Joseph, before he took her home, that she was with child of the Holy Ghost.
And Joseph her husband was pious, and would not reprove her, but purposed to leave her
secretly.
And as he thought upon these things, behold, an angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy spouse: for that which is born in her is of the Holy Ghost.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
And all these things were done, that it might be fulfilled which the LORD spake by the prophet, saying:
Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which is interpreted, God with us.
And when Joseph was awake from sleep, he did as the angel of the LORD commanded him, and took his spouse unto him.
And knew her not till she bare her first son, and called his name JEsus.

Chapter 2
When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying:
Where is the newborn King of the Jews? We have seen his star in the east, and have come to worship him.
And when Herod the king heard it, he was afraid, and all Jerusalem with him.
And he gathered together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, and inquired of them where Christ should be born.
And they said unto him, At Bethlehem in the land of Judah. For thus it is written by the prophet, saying.
And thou Bethlehem, which art in the land of Judah, art by no means the least of the princes of Judah: for out of thee shall come a duke unto me, which shall be a lord over my people Israel.
Then Herod called the wise men secretly, and learned diligently of them when the star appeared,
And he directed them to Bethlehem, saying, Go and search diligently for the young child; and if ye find him, tell me again, that I also may come and worship him.
And when they had heard the king, they went their way. And, behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over the top of the young child.
When they saw the star, they were glad.
And they went into the house, and found the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him, and opened their treasures, and gave him gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
And God commanded them in a dream, that they should not turn again to Herod. And they departed by another way into their own
