Luther Bible 1545 (English)
said unto him, Now therefore let no fruit grow upon thee henceforth. And straightway the fig tree withered away.
And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, and said: How is the fig tree withered as soon as?
And Jesus answered and said unto them: Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this thing unto the fig tree, but if ye shall say unto this mountain, Take thee up, and cast thee into the sea; it shall be done.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, if ye believe, ye shall receive it.
And when he came into the temple, as he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came up to him and said: By what authority doest thou these things, and who gave thee authority?
And Jesus answered and said unto them: I also will ask you one word; and if ye tell me, I will tell you also by what authority I do these things.
Whence was the baptism of John? Was it from heaven, or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we say that it was from heaven, he will say unto us, Why then believed ye him not?
But if we say that it was of men, we must be afraid of the people: for they all took John for a prophet.
And they answered JEsu, and said: We know it not. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
But what think ye? A man had two sons, and he went to the first and said, “Son, go and work in my vineyard today.
But he answered and said: I will not do it. And after that he repented, and went away.
And he went to the other, and spake the same. And he answered and said: Lord, yes! and did not go.
Which of the two did the will of the Father? They said unto him: The first. JEsus said unto them: Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and the harlots may well enter into the kingdom of heaven sooner than ye.
John came unto you, teaching you the right way, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him. And though ye saw it, yet repented ye not, that ye believed him afterward.
Hear another parable. There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and made a fence round about it, and digged a winepress therein, and built a tower, and put it out to the husbandmen, and went over the country.
And when the time of fruit was come, he sent his servants unto the husbandmen, that they might receive his fruit.
And the husbandmen took his servants, and beheaded the one, and killed the other, and stoned the third.
And again he sent other servants more than the first: and they did so unto them.
And afterward he sent his son unto them, saying, They shall shun my son.
And when the husbandmen saw the son, they said one to another, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us take his inheritance.
And they took him, and thrust him out into the vineyard, and slew him.
When therefore the Lord of the vineyard shall come, what shall he do to these husbandmen?
And they said unto him, He shall destroy the wicked, and shall give his vineyard to other husbandmen, which shall give him the fruit in due season.
And JEsus said unto them: Have ye never read in the scriptures: The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner: this is of the LORD, and it is marvellous in our sight?
Therefore I say to you: The kingdom of God shall be taken from you and given to the Gentiles who bear its fruit.
And whosoever shall fall upon this stone shall be broken to pieces; but upon whomsoever it shall fall, it shall crush him.
And when the chief priests and Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.
And they sought how they might lay hold on him: but they feared the people, because they took him for a prophet.

Chapter 22
Of the royal marriage, the groschen of interest, the resurrection, the most noble commandment, and the person of Christ.
And JEsus answering spake unto them again in parables, saying: 2. The kingdom of heaven is like unto a king that made a marriage for his son.
And sent his servants to call the guests to the marriage: and they would not come.
And again he sent out other servants, saying, Tell the guests, Behold, my supper is prepared, my oxen and my fatlings are slain, and all things are ready: come ye to the marriage.
But they despised it, and went away, the one to his field, and the other to his husbandry.
And some took his servants, and mocked them, and slew them.
And when the king heard it, he was wroth, and sent forth his armies, and slew those murderers, and burned their city.
Then said he unto his servants: The wedding is ready, but the guests were not worthy.
Go ye therefore into the highways, and invite to the marriage whom ye find.
And the servants went out into the streets, and gathered together whom they found, both evil and good. And the tables were all filled.
And the king went in to see the guests, and saw a man there that had no wedding garment on, 12. And said unto him, Friend, how camest thou in, and hast no wedding garment on? And he held his peace.
And the king said unto his servants, Bind his hands and his feet, and cast him out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth;
For many are called, but few are chosen.
Then the Pharisees went and held a council, as they caught him in his speech.
And they sent unto him their disciples with Herod’s servants, saying: Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God aright, and askest after no man: for thou regardest not the reputation of men.
Therefore tell us, what thinkest thou? Is it right to give interest to the emperor, or not?
And when JEsus perceived their wickedness, he said, Ye hypocrites, why tempt ye me?
Give me the coin of interest. And they offered him a penny.
And he said unto them: Whose is the image and the superscription?
And they said unto him, The emperor’s. And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and unto GOD the things that are GOD’s.
And when they heard it, they marvelled, and left him, and went away.
And the same day there came unto him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him
And they said: Master, Moses said, If a man die, and have not children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
Now there were with us seven brethren. The first one married and died, and because he had
no seed, he left his wife to his brother.
The like of the second, and of the third, unto the seventh.
Last of all, after all, the woman also died.
Now in the resurrection, whose wife shall she be among the seven? You have had them all.
And Jesus answered and said unto them: Ye err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
In the resurrection they will neither be free nor allowed to be free, but they will be like the angels of God in heaven.
But have ye not read of the resurrection of the dead, which is told you of God, saying: 32. I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? But God is not a God of the dead, but of the living.
And when the people heard these things, they were astonished at his doctrine.
And when the Pharisees heard that he had shut up the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together.
And one of them, a scribe, tempted him, saying:
Master, which is the noblest commandment in the law?
And JESUS said unto him, Thou shalt love GOD thy LORD with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the noblest and greatest commandment.
And the other is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
In these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Now when the Pharisees were together, JEsus asked them
And said, How think ye of Christ? Whose son is he? They said: Davids.
And he said unto them: How then doth David in spirit call him a LORD, saying: 44. The LORD hath said unto my LORD, Sit thou on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
If therefore David call him a lord, how is he his son?
And no man was able to answer him a word, neither was it lawful for any man to ask him from that day forward.
