And said, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.

And if it come to pass with the governor, we will quiet him, and make you safe.

And they took the money, and did as they were taught. This hath been a common saying among the Jews unto this day.

And the eleven disciples went up into Galilee into a mountain, whither Jesus had appointed them.

And when they saw him, they fell down before him: but some doubted.

And JEsus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

And teach them to observe all that I have commanded you. And, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.

This is the beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, 2. As it is written in the prophets: Behold, I send my angel before thee, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

It is the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make his paths straight.

John, being in the wilderness, baptized, and preached of the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

And there went out unto him all the country of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey.

And he preached, saying, There cometh one after me stronger than I, to whom I am not sufficient to stoop down before him, and to loose the thongs of his shoes.

I baptize you with water; but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

And it came to pass at that time, that JEsus came from Galilee of Nazareth, and was baptized of John in Jordan.

And straightway he came up out of the water, and saw heaven opened, and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove.

And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

And soon the spirit drove him into the wilderness.

And was there in the wilderness forty days tempted of Satan, and was with the beasts, and the angels ministered unto him.

And after that John was delivered, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God.

And said, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is come. Repent, and believe in the gospel.

And as he went by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting their nets into the sea: for they were fishermen.

And JEsus said unto them: Follow me. I will make you fishers of men.

And straightway they left their nets, and followed him.

And as he passed a little way thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, mending the nets in the ship: and straightway he called them.

And they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hirelings, and followed him.

And they went to Capernaum: and straightway on the sabbaths he went into the synagogue, and taught.

And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught mightily, and not as the scribes.

And there was in their synagogue a man possessed with an unclean spirit, crying out 24. And said, Hold, what have we to do with thee, JEsus of Nazareth? Thou art come to destroy us. I know who you are, the Holy One of God.

And JEsus afflicted him, saying, Be silent, and depart from him.

And the unclean spirit tore him, and cried with a loud voice, and went out of him.

And they were all amazed, and asked one another, saying: What is this? What new doctrine is this? He giveth power unto unclean spirits, and they obey him.

And soon his tidings went abroad into the borders of Galilee.

And they went out of the synagogue quickly, and came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

And Simon’s wife lay sick of the fever: and straightway they told him of her.

And he came unto her, and lifted her up, and held her by the hand: and the fever soon left her, and she ministered unto them.

And in the evening, when the sun was down, they brought unto him all manner of sick and possessed.

And all the city was gathered together at the door.

And he helped many that were sick with divers diseases, and cast out many devils, and suffered not the devils to speak: for they knew him.

And in the morning before day he arose, and went out. And JEsus went into a desert place, and prayed there.

And Peter with them that were with him hasted after him.

And when they found him, they said unto him, Every man seeketh thee.

And he said unto them: Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for to this end am I come.

And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, casting out devils.

And there came unto him a leper, and besought him, and kneeled down before him, and said unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

And it grieved JEsum, and put forth his hand, and touched him, and said: I will do it; be purified!

And when he thus spake, the leprosy departed from him straightway, and he was clean.

And JEsus afflicted him, and straightway cast him away.

And said unto him, See thou say nothing unto any man, but go and shew thyself unto the priest, and offer for thy cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony against them.

And when he was come out, he began to speak of it much, and to make the story known; so that he could no more go into the city openly, but was without in the desolate places. And they came to him from every quarter.

Chapter 2
Of the gouty man, Matthew’s calling, and Christ’s responsibility against the Pharisees.

And after some days he went again to Capernaum: and it was known that he was in the house.

And straightway many were gathered together, so that there was no room for them, even without the door. And he spake unto them the word.

And there came unto him certain, bringing a man sick of the palsy, borne of four.

And when they could not come to him before the people, they uncovered the roof where he was, and digged it up, and let down the bed where the sick of the palsy lay within.

And when JEsus saw their faith, he saith unto the sick of the palsy: My son, thy sins are forgiven thee.

And there were certain scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts:

How speaketh this blasphemy? Who can forgive sin but God alone?

And soon perceiving in his spirit that they reasoned so within themselves, JEsus saith unto them: Why think ye these things in your hearts?

Which is easier, to say unto the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?

But that ye might know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, he saith unto the sick of the palsy:

I tell you, get up, take up your bed and go home!

And straightway he arose, and took up his bed, and went out before all: so that they were all amazed, and praised God, and said: We have never seen such things.

And he went out again by the sea; and all the people came unto him, and he taught them.

And as JEsus passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.

And it came to pass, as he sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat at meat with JEsu and his disciples. For there were many of them following him.

And the scribes and Pharisees, when they saw that he did eat with publicans and sinners, said unto his disciples, Why eateth he and drinketh with publicans and sinners?

When JEsus heard it, he saith unto them: The strong have no need of a physician, but the sick. I am come to call sinners to repentance, and not the righteous.

And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fasted much; and there came some that said unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, and thy disciples fast not?

And JEsus said unto them: How can the bridegrooms fast, while the bridegroom is with them?
