himself, David, saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD hath said unto my LORD, Sit thou at my right hand,
  • Until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
  • David called him a lord: how then is he his son?
  • And when all the people were listening, he said to his disciples: 46. Beware of the scribes, which come in long robes, and love to be saluted in the market, and love to sit in the synagogues, and over the table.
  • They devour widows’ houses, and make long prayers: they shall receive the more grievous damnation.

    Chapter 21
    Of the widows’ tax, the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the world 1. And he looked up, and behold the rich men putting their offerings into the treasury.
  • And he saw also a poor widow, which put in two mites.
  • And he said, Verily I say unto you, This poor widow hath put in more than they all.
  • For all these out of their abundance have laid up for the sacrifice of God: but she out of her poverty hath laid up all the food which she had.
  • And when some said of the temple that it was adorned with fine stones and jewels, he said: 6. The time shall come, when of all that ye see there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be broken.
  • And they asked him, saying: Master, when shall this be? and what is the sign when this shall be?
  • And he said, Take heed, be not deceived. For many shall come in my name, saying that I am
    he, and: The time is at hand. Follow them not.
  • But when ye shall hear of wars and uprisings, be not dismayed. For these things must first come to pass: but the end is not yet at hand.
  • Then said he unto them: One nation shall rise above another, and one kingdom above another.
  • And there shall be great earthquakes to and fro, and grievous days, and pestilences. And there shall be terrors, and great signs from heaven.
  • But before all this they shall lay hands on you, and persecute you, and shall deliver you up into their synagogues and prisons, and shall bring you before kings and princes for my name’s sake.
  • And it shall come to pass unto you for a testimony.
  • Take it to heart therefore, that ye be not anxious how ye shall answer.
  • For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which shall not speak against, nor resist all your adversaries.
  • And ye shall be delivered of parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and they shall kill some of you.
  • And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.
  • And one hair of your head shall not perish.
    Nineteen: Take hold of your souls with patience!
  • And when ye shall see Jerusalem besieged with an army, then know that their desolation is come.
  • Then let him that is in Judea flee to the mountains; and let him that is in the midst of them go out: and let not him that is in the country come in.
  • For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
  • But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! For there shall be great distress upon the earth, and wrath upon this people.
  • And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be carried away captive among all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
  • And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars: and upon the earth men shall be afraid, and shall tremble; and the sea and the waves of waters shall roar.
  • And men shall faint for fear, and for waiting of things to come upon the earth: for the powers of heaven also shall be shaken.
  • And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
  • But when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads, because your redemption draweth nigh.
  • And he spake unto them a parable: Behold the fig tree and all the trees!
  • When they now shoot forth, ye see it in them, and know that summer is now at hand.
  • Ye also, when ye see all these things, know that the kingdom of God is at hand.
  • Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all be done.
  • and earth will pass away, but my words do not pass.
  • But take heed lest your hearts be troubled with eating and drinking, and with cares of food, and that day come upon you quickly;
  • For as a snare shall it come upon all them that dwell upon the earth.
  • Be ye therefore always valiant, and pray that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man].
  • And he taught in the temple by day, and went out by night, and lodged in the mount of Olives by night.
  • And all the people rose up early to hear him in the temple.

  • And the feast of sweet bread, which is called Easter, was at hand.
  • And the chief priests and scribes sought how to kill him, and feared the people.
  • And Satan was come into Judas, called Iscariot, which was of the number of the twelve.
  • And he went and spake unto the chief priests and unto the captains, how he would deliver him up unto them.
  • And they were glad, and vowed to give him money.
  • And he promised, and sought opportunity, that he might deliver him up without a tumult.
  • And now came the day of sweet bread, upon which the passover was to be offered.
  • And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go, prepare us the passover, that we may eat it.
  • And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
  • And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, a man shall meet you, bearing a pitcher of water: follow him into the house where he entereth in, 11. And say unto the master of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the inn wherein I may eat the passover with my disciples?
  • And he shall show you a great paved hall; there prepare it.
  • And they went and found as he had said unto them, and prepared the passover.
  • And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
  • And he said unto them: I was heartily desirous to eat this passover with you before I suffer.
  • For I say unto you, that I will henceforth eat no more of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
  • And he took the cup, and gave thanks, saying, Take the same, and divide it among you.
  • For I say unto you: I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.
  • And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
  • And likewise the cup after supper, saying, This is the cup, the new testament in my blood, which is poured out for you.
  • But, behold, the hand of my betrayer is with me over tables!
  • And the Son of man goeth according to the decree: but woe unto that same man by whom he is betrayed!
  • And they began to ask among themselves, which of them it was that would do this thing.
  • There was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
  • And he said unto them: The worldly kings reign, and the mighty are called gracious lords.
  • And ye shall not be so: but the greatest among you shall be as the youngest, and the chiefest as a servant.
  • For which is the greatest, he that sitteth at meat, or he that ministereth? Is it not so, that he that sitteth at meat? But I am among you as a servant.
  • But ye are they which have persevered with me in my temptations.
  • And I will appoint unto you the kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me, 30. That ye may eat and drink above my table in my kingdom, and sit upon seats, and judge the twelve tribes of Israel:]
  • And the LORD said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired you, that he may sift you as wheat.
  • But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not. And if thou be converted in time to come, strengthen thy brethren.
  • And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee into prison and to death.
  • And he said, Peter, I tell thee, the cock shall not crow this day, till thou hast thrice denied that thou knowest me.
  • And he said unto them, As often as I have sent you without bag, and without purse, and without shoes, have ye ever lacked? They said: Never none.
  • Then said he unto them: But now, he that hath a bag, let him take it, and of the same also the bag: but he that hath not, let him sell his garment, and buy a sword.
  • For I say unto you, That which is written of me, He is numbered with the transgressors, must yet be finished. For that which is written of me hath an end.
  • And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them: It is enough.
