  • And he went out, and followed him, and knew not that these things were truly done unto him by the angel; but it seemed unto him that he saw a vision.
  • And they passed through the first and second ward, and came to the iron door that leadeth into the city, which opened of itself unto them. And they went out, and walked along the street: and straightway the angel departed from him.
  • And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now verily I know that the LORD hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the waiting of the people of the Jews].
  • And when he had considered, he came into the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying.
  • And when Peter knocked at the door of the gate, there came forth a maid to hear, named Rhode.
  • And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for joy, but ran in, and told them that Peter stood at the gate.
  • And they said unto her, Thou art foolish. But she insisted it was so. They said: It is his angel.
  • And Peter knocked again. And when they opened, they saw him, and were amazed.
  • And he beckoned them with his hand to hold their peace, and told them how the LORD had brought him out of prison, saying, Declare this unto James and the brethren. And he went out, and departed into another place.
  • And when it was day, there was not the least anxiety among the soldiers, how Peter might have fared.
  • And Herod, when he had required him, and found him not, justified the keepers, and commanded them to be carried away, and went down from Judaea to Caesarea, and kept his company there.
  • For he was minded to war against the men of Tyre and Sidon. And they came unto him with one accord, and persuaded the king’s chamberlain Blastus, and asked peace, that their lands might feed upon the king’s land.
  • But on a certain day Herod put on the royal robe, and sat on the judgment seat, and made a speech to them.
  • And the people cried out, saying, This is the voice of God, and not of man.
  • Immediately the angel of the LORD smote him, because he gave not the glory to God; and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.
  • But the word of God increased and multiplied.
  • And Barnabas and Saul came again to Jerusalem, and delivered up the hand, taking with them John, whose surname was Mark.

    Chapter 13
    Paul’s first journey to the Gentiles, and what he did among them.
  • Now there were in Antioch prophets and teachers in the church, namely, Barnabas, and Simon called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manahen, brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
  • And as they were ministering unto the Lord, and fasting, the Holy Ghost said, Send me forth Barnabas and Saul unto the work whereunto I have called them.
  • Then they fasted, and prayed, and laid hands on them, and let them go.
  • And when they were sent forth by the Holy Ghost, they came to Seleucia, and from thence
    they toiled to Cyprus.
  • And when they were come into the city of Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had John also to minister unto them.
  • And as they passed through the island unto the city of Paphos, they found a sorcerer and a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-jehu.
  • He was with Sergius Paul the governor, a man of understanding. The same called Barnabas and Saul unto him, and desired to hear the word of God.
  • Then Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is interpreted) stood against them, and sought to turn the governor from the faith.
  • And Saul, who is also called Paul, full of the Holy Ghost, looked upon him.
  • And said, O thou child of the devil, full of all guile and cunning, and enemy to all righteousness! Thou ceasest not to turn aside the right ways of the LORD.
  • And now, behold, the hand of the LORD cometh upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, and shalt not see the sun for a season. And from that hour darkness and gloom fell upon him: and he went about seeking the ladder of hands.
  • When the governor saw the story, he believed, and marvelled at the doctrine of the LORD.
  • And when Paul and they that were about him were shipped from Paphos, they came to Perge in the land of Pamphylia. But John departed from them, and went again to Jerusalem.
  • And they passed through from Perge, and came to Antioch in the land of Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
  • And after the lesson of the law and of the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Brethren, if ye will speak any thing, and exhort the people, tell them 16. Then Paul stood up, and beckoned with his hand, and said: Ye men of Israel, and ye that fear God, hear me.
  • The God of this people hath chosen our fathers, and hath lifted up the people, when they were strangers in the land of Egypt; and with a high arm brought they out of the same.
  • And for forty years he tolerated their ways in the wilderness.
  • And he destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, and divided among them according to the lot of those countries.
  • And after that he gave them judges four hundred and fifty years, except Samuel the prophet.
  • And from that time they asked for a king. And God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the family of Benjamin, forty years.
  • And when he had put him away, he raised up David king over them, of whom he testified: I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who shall do all my will.
  • Of this seed hath God, as he promised, begotten JESUS a Saviour unto the people of Israel, 24. When John before began to preach the baptism of repentance unto the people of Israel.
  • And when John had run his course, he said, I am not he whom ye think me to be: but, behold, he cometh after me, of whom I am not worthy to loose the shoes of his feet.

  • Ye men, brethren, children of the seed of Abraham, and them that fear God among you, unto you is sent the word of this salvation.
  • For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, not knowing this, nor the voice of the prophets (which are read every sabbath day), have filled them with their judgment.
  • And though they found no cause of death in him, yet they besought Pilate to put him to death.
  • And when they had finished all that was written of him, they took him down from the wood, and laid him in a sepulchre.
  • But God raised him from the dead.
  • And he appeared many days unto them that went up with him from Galilee unto Jerusalem, which are his witnesses unto the people.
  • And we also declare unto you the promise which was made unto our fathers, 33. That the same God hath fulfilled us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus;] as it is written in another psalm, Thou art my Son: this day have I begotten thee.
  • And when he hath raised him from the dead, that he should no more perish, thus saith he: I
    will faithfully keep the grace promised to David.
  • Therefore saith he also in the other place, Thou wilt not suffer thy saint to see corruption.
  • For David, when he had served the will of God in his days, fell asleep, and joined his fathers, and saw corruption.
  • But whom God hath raised up, he hath not seen corruption.
  • Be it known unto you therefore, brethren, that there is preached unto you remission of sins by this, and of all things, whereby ye could not be justified in the law of Moses.
  • But he that believeth on him is righteous.
  • Take heed therefore that those things which are spoken in the prophets come not upon you: 41. Behold, ye despisers, and marvel, and be confounded: for I do a work in your days, which ye shall not believe, if any man tell you.
  • And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought them to speak unto them between the sabbaths.
  • And when the church of the synagogue was departed from one another, there followed after Paul and Barnabas many Jews, and the godly of the Jews. And they saw them, and exhorted them to abide in the grace of God.
  • And on the next sabbath almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God.
  • And when the Jews saw the people, they were filled with envy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and contradicted and blasphemed.
  • And Paul and Barnabas said openly, Ye had first to be told the word of God: but now ye cast it from you, and consider yourselves not worthy of eternal life, behold, we turn unto the Gentiles.
  • For thus hath the LORD commanded us: I have set thee for a light unto the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be salvation unto the ends of the earth.
  • And when the Gentiles heard it, they were glad, and glorified the word of the LORD, and believed how many were ordained unto eternal life.
  • And the word of the LORD was spread abroad through all that region.
