Luther Bible 1545 (English)
good works. This is
good and profitable for men.
But abstain from foolish questions, and from genealogies, and from disputings, and from strifes concerning the law: for they are vain and empty.
Avoid a heretical man, when he hath been admonished once and again, 11. And know that such a one is perverse, and sinneth, as he that hath condemned himself.
When I shall send unto thee Artemas, or Tychicus, come quickly unto me to Nicopolis: for there I have determined to dwell for the winter.
Finish Zenas the scribe and Apollos with diligence, that nothing be broken to them.
But let ours also learn to be found in the state of good works, where they are needed; that they be not unfruitful:
All who are with me greet you. Greetings to all who love us in faith. Grace be with you all!
Amen.

The letter of Paul to Philemon ^
Paul’s intercession for Onesimus the converted servant.
Paul, the bound of Christ JEsu, and Timotheus, the brother: Philemon, the beloved, and our helper,
And Appian, the beloved, and Archippus, our contender, and the congregation of thy house.
Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I thank my God and remember you always in my prayer,
Having heard of the love and faith which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints,
That your faith, which we have one with another, may be strengthened in you by the knowledge of all the good things which ye have in Christ Jesus.
But we have great joy and comfort in thy love: for the hearts of the saints are refreshed through thee, dear brother. .
Therefore, though I have great joy in Christ, to command thee that which is right for thee, 9. But for love’s sake I will only exhort, who am such a one, that is, an old Paul, but now also a bondman of JEsu Christ.
Thus I exhort thee for my son’s sake, Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bands, 11. Which was useless unto thee, but is now profitable unto thee and me: him have I sent again.
But thou wilt receive him, that is, my own heart.
For I would keep him with me, to minister in thy stead in the bonds of the gospel; 14. But without thy will I would do nothing, that thy good might not be required, but willing.
But peradventure for this cause he came from thee for a season, that thou mightest have him again for ever,
Now not more than a servant, but more than a servant, a dear brother, especially to me: how much more to thee, both according to the flesh, and in the Lord?
If therefore thou thinkest me thy companion, receive him as thyself.
But if he hath wronged thee, or if he be guilty of any thing, impute it unto me.
I, Paul, have written it with mine hand; I will pay it. I hold my peace, that thou owest thyself unto me.
Yea, dear brother, grant that I may delight myself in thee in the LORD: quicken my heart in the LORD.
I have written unto thee out of confidence of thy obedience: for I know that thou wilt do more than I say.
Besides prepare me an inn: for I hope that by your prayer I shall be given unto you.
Epaphras saluteth thee, my fellow prisoner in Christ JEsu,
Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my assistants.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

The Letter to the Hebrews ^
Chapter 1
Christ is the Son of God and higher than the angels and all creatures.
(Epistle on the third day of Christmas, or the day of John the Apostle.) 1. After the times of old God spake sometimes and divers manners unto the fathers by the prophets,
He hath spoken unto us in the last of these days by the Son, whom he hath made heir of all things, by whom also he made the world;
Who, being the brightness of his glory, and the image of his being, and bearing all things with his powerful word, and having made the purification of our sins by himself, is set on the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Being so much better than the angels, that he hath inherited so much of a higher name before them.
For to what angel did he ever say, Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be his father, and he shall be my son?
And again, when he bringeth in the firstborn into the world, he saith, And all the angels of God shall worship him.
Of the angels indeed he saith: He maketh his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire; 8. But of the Son, God, thy throne endureth for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a true sceptre.
Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity: therefore, O God, thy God hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows;
and: Thou, O LORD, hast founded the earth from the beginning, and the heavens are the work of thy hands.
These shall pass away, but thou shalt remain: and they shall all pass away as a garment, 12. And as a garment shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed. But thou art the same, and thy years shall not cease].
And to what angel did he ever say, Sit thou at my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?
Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them that shall inherit blessedness?
(Hebrews)
Chapter 2
The doctrine of Christ is to be received and accepted.
Therefore we ought the more to hearken unto the word which we hear, that we go not away.
For if the word which was spoken by angels be established, and every transgression and disobedience receive their due reward:
How shall we escape, if we regard not such blessedness? which, after it was first preached by the Lord, it came upon us by them that heard it.
And God bore witness to them with signs and wonders and various powers, and with the dispensation of the Holy Spirit according to His will.
For he hath not put the angels in charge of the world to come, whereof we speak.
And there is one that testifieth in one place, saying, What is man, that thou rememberest him?
and the Son of man, that thou visitest him?
Thou hast made him lack a little time of angels: with glory and honour hast thou crowned him, and hast set him over the works of thy hands;
Thou hast put all things under his feet. In that he hath put all things under him, he hath left nothing that is not subject unto him: but now we see not yet that all things are subject unto
him.
But the one who lacked a little time of angels, we see that it is JEsus, crowned with glory and honor through suffering of death, that by the grace of GOD he might taste death for all.
For it behoved him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, who hath brought many children unto glory, to make perfect the duke of their blessedness through sufferings.
For they all come of one, both he that sanctifieth, and they that are sanctified. Therefore he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, and will sing praise unto thee in the midst of the congregation.
And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold, I and the children which God hath given me.
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he is likewise made partaker of them, that through death he might take away the power of him that had the power of death, that is, of the devil,
And redeemed them which through fear of death were servants all their days.
For nowhere doth he take the angels unto himself, but the seed of Abraham doth he take unto himself.
Therefore he had to become like his brethren in all things, that he might be merciful, and a faithful high priest before God, to make reconciliation for the sin of the people.
For in that he hath suffered, and is tempted, he is able to help them that are tempted.
(Hebrews)
Chapter 3
Let Christ, the excellent teacher of the New Testament, be heard.
Wherefore, holy brethren, which are called together with you by the heavenly calling, take heed to the apostle and high priest, whom we confess, Christ JEsu, 2. Who is faithful to him that made him (as also Moses) in all his house.
And this man is worthy of more honour than Moses: for he that prepareth the house hath more honour in it than the house.
For every house is prepared by one: but he that prepareth all things is God.
And Moses indeed was faithful in all his house as a servant for a testimony of that which should be spoken;
But Christ as a son over his house: which house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the glory of the hope firm unto the end.
Therefore, as the Holy Ghost saith, To day, if ye shall hear his voice, 8. Then harden not your hearts, as was done in the day of temptation in the wilderness, 9. When your fathers tried me, they tested me, and saw my works forty years; 10. Therefore was I indignant against this generation, and said: Their hearts do always err, but they knew not my ways,
That I also sware in mine
