And ships out of Chittim shall destroy Assyria and Eber: he also shall perish.

Chapter 25
Idolatry and fornication will be severely punished.

And Israel dwelt in Shittim: and the people began to fornicate with the daughters of Moab, 2. Which invited the people to the sacrifice of their gods. And the people did eat, and worshipped their gods.

And Israel clave unto Baal Peor. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, 4. And Moses said, Take all the rulers of the people, and hang them in the sun unto the LORD, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned from Israel.

And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay every man his men that have cleaved unto Baal-peor.

And, behold, a man of the children of Israel came and brought among his brethren a Midianitish woman, and made Moses to see, and all the congregation of the children of Israel weeping at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

And when the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest saw it, he arose out of the congregation, and took a spear in his hand,

And he went after the man of Israel into the whore’s corner, and pierced them both, the man of Israel and the woman, through their bellies. And the plague ceased from the children of Israel.

And there were killed in the plague twenty and four thousand.

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying:

Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest hath turned away mine anger from the children of Israel by his zeal for me, that I should not destroy the children of Israel in my zeal.

Therefore say, Behold, I give him my covenant of peace;

And he shall have, and his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he hath labored for his God, and hath made an atonement for the children of Israel.

And the name of the Israelitish man that was slain with the Midianitish woman was Zimri the son of Salu, a ruler in the house of the father of the Simeonites.

And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Casbi, the daughter of Zur, who was a prince of one family of the Midianites.

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying:

Harm the Midianites, and smite them;

For they have wronged you with their deceit, which they set before you by Peor, and by their sister Casbi the daughter of the prince of Midian, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor’s sake, and the plague came after.

The Jewish people are counted anew.

And the LORD spake unto Moses and Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest: 2. Take the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel from twenty years old and upward, according to their fathers’ houses, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel.

And Moses spake unto them with Eleazar the priest in the plains of Moab by Jordan over against Jericho,

Who were twenty years old and upward, as the LORD commanded Moses, and the children of Israel which came out of Egypt.

Reuben, the firstborn of Israel. And the sons of Reuben were: Hanoch, from whom came the family of the Hanochites; Pallu, from whom came the family of the Palluites;

Hezron, from whom is the family of the Hezronites; Charmi, from whom is the family of the Charmites.

These are the families of Reuben; and their number was forty and three thousand seven hundred and thirty.

But the children of Pallu were Eliab;

And the sons of Eliab were Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. These are Dathan and Abiram, the chief of the congregation, which rebelled against Moses and Aaron in the company of Korah, when they rebelled against the LORD,

And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up with Korah, when the congregation died; when the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men, and became a sign.

But the children of Korah died not.

The sons of Simeon in their families were: Nemuel, whence cometh the family of the Nemuelites; Jamin, whence cometh the family of the Jaminites; Jachin, whence cometh the family of the Jachinites;

Serah, from whence cometh the family of the Zerahites: Saul, from whence cometh the family of the Saulites.

These are the families of Si meon: twenty and two thousand and two hundred.

The children of Gad in their families were: Ziphon, whence cometh the family of the Ziphonites; Haggi, whence cometh the family of the Haggites; Suni, whence cometh the family of the Sunites;

Osni, from whence cometh the family of the Osnites; Eri, from whence cometh the family of the Erites;

Arod, from whence cometh the family of the Arodites; Ariel, from whence cometh the family of the Arielites.

These are the families of the children of Gad, in their number forty thousand and five hundred.

The sons of Judah; Ger and Onan, both of whom died in the land of Canaan.

And the children of Judah were of their families; Shelah, from whence came the family of the Selanites; Perez, from whence came the family of the Perezites; Zerah, from whence came the family of the Zerahites.

But the sons of Perez were: Hezron, whence cometh the family of the Hezronites; Hamul, whence cometh the family of the Hamulites.

These are the families of Judah, in their number threescore and six thousand and five hundred.

The children of Issachar in their families were: Thola, from whence comes the family of the Tholaites; Phuva, from whence comes the family of the Phuvanites; 24. Jashub, from whence cometh the family of the Jashubites; Shimron, from whence cometh the family of the Shimronites.

These are the families of Issachar, threescore and four thousand and three hundred.

The sons of Zebulun in their families were: Zered, whence cometh the family of the Zeredites; Elon, whence cometh the family of the Elonites; Jaheleel, whence cometh the family of the Jaheleelites.

These are the families of Zebulun, threescore thousand and five hundred in number.

And the sons of Joseph in their families were: Manasseh and Ephraim.

And the sons of Manasseh were: Machir, whence cometh the family of the Machirites: Machir begat Gilead, whence cometh the family of the Gileadites.

Now these are the children of Gilead: Hieser, from whence comes the family of the Hieserites; Helek, from whence comes the family of the Helekites; 31. Asriel, from whence cometh the family of the Asrielites: and from whence cometh the family of the Shechemites;

Smida, whence cometh the family of the Smidaites: Hepher, whence cometh the family of the Hepherites.

And Zelaphehad was the son of Hepher, and had no sons, but daughters: and their names
were Mahela, and Noah, and Hagla, and Milcah, and Tirzah.

These are the families of Manasseh, fifty and two thousand and seven hundred in number.

The children of Ephraim in their families were: Suthelah, from whence came the family of the Suthelahites; Becher, from whence came the family of the Becherites; Thahan, from whence came the family of the Thahanites.

And the children of Suthelah were: Eran, whence cometh the family of the Eranites.

These are the families of the children of Ephraim, in their number thirty and two thousand and five hundred. These are the sons of Joseph in their generations.

The children of Benjamin in their families were: Bela, whence cometh the family of the Belaites; Asbel, whence cometh the family of the Asbelites; Ahiram, whence cometh the family of the Ahiramites;

Supham, from whence cometh the family of the Suphamites; Hupham, from whence cometh the family of the Huphamites.

And the children of Bela were: Ard and Naaman, whence came the families of the Ardites and Naamanites.

These are the sons of Benjamin in their families, numbering forty and five thousand and six hundred.

The children of Dan in their families were: Suham, from whence comes the family of the Suhamites.

These are the families of Dan in their generations, and were all the number of them threescore and four thousand and four hundred.

The children of Asher in their families were: Jemna, from whence cometh the family of the Jemnites; Jeswi, from whence cometh the family of the Jezvites; Briah, from whence cometh the family of the Brites.

But the sons of Briah were: Heber, whence cometh the family of the Hebrews; Melchiel, whence cometh the family of the Melchielites.

And the name of the daughter of Asher was Sarah.

These are the families of the children of Asher, in their number fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

The children of Naphtali in their families were: Jaheziel, whence came the family of the Jahezielites; Guni, whence came the family of the Gunites;

Jezer, from whence cometh the family of the Jezerites; Sillem, from whence cometh the family of the Sillemites.

These are the families of Naphtali, in their number forty and five thousand and four hundred.

This is the sum of the children of Israel, six times an hundred thousand, one thousand seven hundred and thirty.
