Benjamin within their borders round about among their families.

And the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, among their families are these: Jericho, Beth-hagla, Emek-reziz,

Beth-arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel.

Avim, Hapara, Ophra,

Kaphar-Amonai, Aphni, Gaba. These are twelve cities and their villages.

Gibeon, Rama, Beeroth,

Mizpe, Kaphira, Moza,

Rekem, Jerpeel, Thareala,

Zelah, Eleph, and the Jebusites; that is, Jerusalem, Gibeath, Kiriath: fourteen cities and their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin in their families.

Chapter 19
Of the remaining six tribes and Joshua’s inheritance.

Afterward fell the other lot of the tribe of the children of Simeon after their families: and their inheritance was among the inheritance of the children of Judah.

And Beer-sheba, and Sheba, and Molada, were their inheritance, 3. Hazar-Sual, Bala, Azem,

El-Tholad, Bethul, Horma,

Ziklag, Beth-Markaboth, Hazar, Sussa,

Beth-lebaoth, Saruhen. These are thirteen cities and their villages.

Ain, Rimon, Ether, Asan. These are four cities and their villages.

And all the villages that are round about these cities, unto Baalath-beer-ramath southward.
This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Simeon in their families.

For the inheritance of the children of Simeon is under the cord of the children of Judah.
Because the inheritance of the children of Judah was too great for them, therefore the children of Simeon asked under their inheritance.

And the third lot fell upon the children of Zebulun after their families: and the border of their inheritance was unto the sand;

And go up to the west to Mareala, and come upon Dabaseth, and come upon the brook that floweth before Jakneam;

And he turned from Sarid toward the rising of the sun unto the border of Kisloththabor: and he came out to Dabrath, and went up to Japhia.

And from thence she goeth toward the going up by Gitta-hepher, and Ithah, and Kazin, and cometh out to Rimon-mithoar and Nea;

And he turned about from north to Nathon, and ended in the valley of Jephthah-el, 15. Katath, Nahalal, Simron, Jedeala, and Bethlehem: these are twelve cities and their villages.

This is the inheritance of the children of Zebulun in their families; these are their cities and their villages.

And the fourth lot fell upon the children of Issachar according to their families.

And their border was Jezreel, and Cheshulloth, and Sunem,

Hapharaim, Sion, Anaharath,

Rabith, Kiseon, Abez,

remeth, en-gannim, en-hada, beth-pazez;

And they come upon Tabor, and Sahazima, and Bethshemesh; and their end is at Jordan.
Sixteen cities and their villages.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Issachar in their families, in their cities, and in their villages.

And the fifth lot fell to the tribe of the children of Asher according to their families.

And their border was Helkath, Hali, Beten, Achsaph.

Alamelech, Amead, Miseal; and abutteth Carmel by the sea, and Sihor-libnath; 27. And he turned toward the rising of the sun to Beth-dagon, and came upon Zebulun, and upon the valley of Jephthah-el, upon the north of Beth-emek, and upon Negiel, and came out to Kabul on the left hand,

And Ebron, and Rehob, and Hammon, and Cana, unto the great Zidon; 29. And he turned toward Ramah unto the strong city of Zor; and he turned toward Hossa, and ended at the sea by the line toward Achsib,

Uma, Aphek, Rehob. Twenty-two cities and their villages.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Asher in their families, cities, and villages.

And the sixth lot fell to the children of Naphtali in their families.

And their borders were from Heleph, Elon, through Zaenannim, Adami-Nekeb, Jabneel, unto Lakum, and endeth at Jordan;

And he turned to the evening to Ashnoththabor, and came out from thence to Hukok: and he met Zebulun at south, and Asher at evening, and Judah at Jordan at sunrising; 35. And he hath strong cities; Zidim, Zer, Hamath, Rakath, Cinnereth, 36. Adama, Rama, Hazor,

Kedes, Edrei, En-Hazor,

Jereon, Migdal-El, Harem, Beth-Anath, Beth-Sames. Nineteen cities and their villages.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Naphtali in their families, cities, and villages.

And the seventh lot fell upon the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families.

And the border of their inheritance was Zareah, Esthaol, Irsames, 42. Saelabin, Ajalon, Jethla,

Elon, Thimnatha, Ekron,

Eltheke, Gibethon, Baalath,

Yehud, Bne-Barak, Gath-Rimon,

Me-Jarkon, Rakon with the boundaries against Japho.

And the border of the children of Dan terminated at the same. And the children of Dan went up, and fought against Leshem, and prevailed, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and took them, and dwelt therein: and they called them Dan after their father’s name.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Dan in their families, cities, and villages.

And when they had divided the land, and the coasts thereof, the children of Israel gave Joshua the son of Nun an inheritance among them.

And they gave him, according to the commandment of the LORD, the city which he required, which is Thimnathzerah in mount Ephraim. And he built the city, and dwelt therein.

These are the inheritances which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief of the fathers of the families, distributed by lot unto the children of Israel in Shiloh before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation; and they finished the distribution of the land.

Chapter 20
Free Cities Ordinance.

And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying:

Say unto the children of Israel, Pray ye among you free cities, of which I spake unto you by Moses,

Thither may a manslayer flee, who smiteth a soul unawares and unknowingly, that they may
be free among you from the avenger of blood.

And he that fleeth into the city shall stand without the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause before the elders of the city: and they shall receive him into the city, and give him place to dwell with them.

And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, they shall not deliver the slayer into his hand, because he smote his neighbour unawares, and was no enemy to him before.

And he shall dwell in the city, until he stand before the congregation in judgment, until the death of the high priest, which shall be at that time. Then shall the slayer return to his city, and to his house, to the city whence he fled.

And they sanctified Kedesh in Galilee, in mount Naphtali; and Shechem, in mount Ephraim; and Kiriath-arbah, which is Hebron, in mount Judah.

And on the other side Jordan, where Jericho is, toward the going up, they gave Bezer in the wilderness on the plain, of the tribe of Reuben; and Ramoth in Gilead, of the tribe of Gad; and Golan in Bashan, of the tribe of Manasseh.

These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the strangers that sojourn among them, that whosoever smiteth a soul unawares should flee thither, that he die not by the avenger of blood, until he stand before the congregation.

Chapter 21
Providing for the Levites.

Then came the chief fathers of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel; 2. And they spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying: The LORD commanded by Moses that they should give us cities to dwell in, and suburbs thereof for our cattle.

And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites of their inheritance, according to the commandment of the LORD, these cities and their suburbs.

And the lot fell upon the family of the Kohathites, and thirteen cities were given by lot unto the children of Aaron the priest out of the Levites: of the tribe of Judah, and of the tribe of Simeon, and of the tribe of Benjamin.

And unto the rest of the sons of Kohath, of the same family, were ten cities given by lot, of the tribe of Ephraim, and of the tribe of Dan, and of the half tribe of Manasseh.

And to the sons of Gershon, of the same family, were given by lot thirteen cities: of the tribe of Issachar, and of the tribe of Asher, and of the tribe of Naphtali, and of the half tribe of Manasseh, in Bashan.

And unto the children of Merari, of their seed, were twelve cities: of the tribe of Reuben, and of the tribe of Gad, and of the tribe of Zebulun.

So the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities and their suburbs, as the LORD commanded by Moses.

Of the tribe of the children of Judah, and of the tribe of the children of Simeon, they gave these cities, which they called by their names,

The children of Aaron, of the family of the Kohathites, of the children of Levi: for the first lot was theirs.

And they gave them Kiriath-arbah, which was Enak’s father’s, which is Hebron, in mount Judah, and the suburbs thereof round about.

And the field of the city, and the villages thereof, gave they unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his inheritance.

So they gave unto the children of Aaron the priest the free city of the slain, Hebron and her suburbs, Libnah and her suburbs,

Jathir and her suburbs, Esthemoa and her suburbs,

Holon and its suburbs, Debir and its suburbs,

Ain and her suburbs, Jutah and her suburbs, Bethshemesh and her suburbs: nine cities of these two tribes.

And of the tribe of Benjamin they gave four cities, Gibeon and her suburbs, Geba and her
suburbs,

Anathoth and her suburbs, Almon and her suburbs,

All the cities of the sons of Aaron the priest were thirteen with their suburbs.

And to the families of the rest of the sons of Kohath, the Levites, were given by lot four cities of the tribe of Ephraim.
