in whom we wait, and he shall save us: this is the LORD, in whom we wait, that we may rejoice and be glad in his salvation.

For the hand of the LORD is upon this mountain Moab: but it shall be broken down under it, as straw is broken down, and as dung.

And he shall spread out his hands in the midst of them, as a swimmer spreadeth them out to swim; and shall make their glory low with the arms of his hands.

And bend the high fortress of your walls low, and cast it into the dust to the ground.

Chapter 26
Encouraging the church to trust God in tribulation.

In that day shall they sing such a song in the land of Judah, saying, We have a strong city; the wall and the defence are salvation.

Open the gates, that the righteous people which keep the faith may enter in.

Thou shalt always have peace according to a certain promise: for they trust in thee.

Therefore rely upon the LORD for ever: for the LORD God is a rock for ever.

And he boweth down them that dwell on high; he bringeth low the high city; yea, he thrusteth it to the earth, and it lieth in the dust,

That it may be trodden under foot, even with the feet of the poor, with the heels of the lowly.

But the way of the righteous is evil: the path of the righteous thou makest right.

For we wait for thee, O LORD, in the way of thy right hand: the desire of the heart is for thy name and for thy memorial.

With my heart I desire thee at night; And with my spirit within me I awake unto thee early.
For where thy justice is done in the land, The inhabitants of the earth learn righteousness.

But though grace be offered unto the wicked, yet learn they not righteousness, but do evil in the right land: for they see not the glory of the LORD.

O LORD, thine hand is lifted up; they see it not: but when they shall see it, they shall be confounded in zeal against the heathen: thou wilt also burn them with fire, that thou mayest consume thine enemies.

But unto us, O LORD, thou wilt make peace: for all that we do thou hast given us.

O LORD our God, there are other lords over us besides thee: but we remember thee and thy name only.

The dead shall not live, neither shall they rise: for thou hast visited them, and destroyed them, and brought to nought all their remembrance.

But thou, O LORD, goest on among the heathen, thou goest on among the heathen, thou showest thy glory, and comest afar off unto the end of the world.

O LORD, when tribulation cometh, they seek thee: when thou chastenest them, they cry out with fear.

As a woman with child, when she is about to be delivered, is afraid, and crieth out in her pains: so is it with us, O Lord, before thy face.

And we are with child, and are afraid that we shall not draw breath; neither can we help the land, neither will the inhabitants of the earth fall.

But thy dead shall live, and rise with the body. Awake, and glorify them that lie under the earth: for thy dew is the dew of the green field. But the land of the dead shalt thou overthrow.

Go thy way, O my people, into thy chamber, and shut thy door upon thee; hide thyself for a moment from me, until the wrath be past.

For, behold, the LORD shall go forth out of his place to visit the wickedness of the inhabitants of the land upon them, and the land shall reveal their blood, and shall not hide them that are slain within.

Chapter 27
God’s judgment on all desolators of the spiritual vineyard.

In that day shall the LORD visit both Leviathan, which is an evil serpent, and Leviathan, which is a crooked serpent, with his fierce and great and strong sword, and shall slay the dragons in the sea.

In that day shall they sing of the vineyard of the best wine: 3. I the LORD will keep him, and will make him wet quickly, that his leaves be not wanting: I will keep him day and night.

God is not angry with me. Oh that I would have the hedges and the ladies! So I would tear among them, and set them in a heap.

He shall keep me in my strength, and shall make me at peace: peace shall he make me nevertheless.

Nevertheless it shall come to pass, that Jacob shall take root, and Israel shall flourish and be green, that they may fill the earth with fruit.

Yet shall he not be smitten, as his enemies smite him; neither shall he be slain, as his enemies slay him,

But with moderation thou judgest them, and loosest them, when thou hast afflicted them with thy rude wind, even with the east wind.

Therefore the sin of Jacob shall cease thereby: and this is the profit of it, that his sins be taken away, in that he maketh all the stones of the altar as stones broken to powder, that there remain no groves nor images.

For the strong city shall be desolate, and the goodly houses shall be cast down, and forsaken, as a wilderness: there shall calves feed, and there shall they rest, and there shall they be eaten up.

Their branches shall break with drought; and the women shall come and make fire therewith.
For they are an unwise people: therefore he that made them shall not have mercy upon them, neither shall he that made them have compassion upon them.

In that day shall the LORD roll from the bank of the river unto the brook of Egypt: and ye children of Israel shall be gathered one by one.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that they shall blow with a great trumpet, that the lost of the land of Assyria, and the outcasts of the land of Egypt, shall come and worship the LORD
in the holy mount at Jerusalem.

Chapter 28
Burden of the kingdom of Israel and Judah.

Woe to the glorious crown of the drunkards of Ephraim, to the withered flower of their lovely glory, which stands above a fat valley of those who stagger with wine!

Behold, a strong and mighty one from the LORD, like a hailstorm, like an evil weather, like a tempest of waters, which break in mightily, is let into the land with violence, 3. That the glorious crown of the drunken of Ephraim might be trodden under foot.

And the withered flower of her lovely glory, which is above a fat valley, shall be like the ripening before summer, which perisheth when it is yet clinging to his branch.

In that day shall the LORD of hosts be a crown of beauty and a garland of glory unto the remnant of his people.

And a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and strength to them that return from the battle unto the gate.

These also are mad with wine, and reel with strong drink. For both priests and prophets are mad with strong drink, and are drowned in wine, and reel with strong drink: they are mad in prophesying, and lick out judgments.

For all tables are full of spittle and filth in every place.

Whom then shall he teach knowledge? To whom shall he give understanding of the sermon?
To them that are weaned from milk; to them that are weaned from breasts.

For (they say), Give hither, give hither; give hither, give hither; wait here, wait there; wait here, wait there; here a little, there a little.

Well, he shall speak with a different tongue and with a different mouth unto this people, to whom these things are preached:

Thus is there rest, thus is there rest for the weary, thus is there quietness; and yet they will not hear such preaching.

Therefore the word of the LORD shall be even so unto them: Give ye here, give ye here; give ye here, give ye here; wait here, wait there; wait here, wait there; here a little, there a little; that they may go, and fall back, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Hear therefore the word of the LORD, ye scoffers that rule over this people which is at Jerusalem.

For ye say, We have made a covenant with death, and a covenant with hell: if a flood come, it shall not overtake us: for we have made falsehood our refuge, and hypocrisy our shield.

Therefore thus saith the LORD GOD; Behold, I lay in Zion a foundation, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, well established. He that believeth shall not flinch.

And I will make judgment the guide, and righteousness the weight: and the hail shall drive away the false refuge, and waters shall wash away the screen,

That your covenant with death may be loosed, and your understanding with hell be not established: and when a flood cometh, it shall tread you down; and when it cometh, it shall take you away.

If it come in the morning, it is in the morning: so also if it come in the day, or if it come in the night. For the temptation alone teacheth to mark the word.

For the bed is so narrow that there is nothing left, and the cover so short that one must nestle in it.

For the LORD will arise as in mount Prazim, and will be angry as in the valley of Gibeon, to do his work in another way, and to do his work in another manner.

Now therefore cease your mocking, lest your bonds be hardened: for I have heard a destruction
