Prayer for protection of life and good name.

a psalm of David, to be sung.

Hear, O God, my voice in my lamentation; keep my life from the cruel enemy!

hide me from the gathering of the wicked, from the heap of evildoers, 4. Who sharpen their tongue like a sword, who aim their poisonous words like arrows, 5. That they shoot secretly at the pious: suddenly they shoot at him without all timidity.

They are bold with their wicked devices, and say how they will lay cords, and speak: Who can see them?

They invent mischief, and keep it secret; they are crafty, and have crafty plots.

But God shall shoot them suddenly, and they shall be in pain.

Their own tongues shall cut them off, and he that beholdeth them shall mock them.

And all men that see it shall say, This hath God done, and shall know that it is His work.

The righteous shall rejoice in the LORD, and trust in him: and all the upright in heart shall glory in him.

Thanksgiving for God’s benefits.

God, you are praised in the silence of Zion, and vows are paid to you.

thou hearest prayer; therefore all flesh cometh unto thee.

Our iniquity is heavy upon us: thou wilt forgive our sin.

Blessed is he whom thou choosest, whom thou dost admit to dwell in thy courts. He hath rich consolation from thy house, thy holy temple. Hear us according to the marvellous righteousness, O God, our salvation, who art the confidence of all on earth and far off by the sea;

Who setteth the mountains in his strength, and is armed with might; 8. Who stillest the roaring of the sea, the roaring of its waves, and the raging of the nations, 9. And they that dwell in the same parts shall be astonished at thy signs. Thou makest glad all that weave, Both the morning and the evening.

Thou hast visited the land, and watered it, and made it very rich. The fountain of God hath abundance of water. Thou makest her corn to grow, For thus thou makest the land.

Thou waterest his furrows, and wettest his plow: with rain thou makest it soft, and blessest his growth.

Thou crownest the year with thy goods, and thy footsteps drip with fatness.

The dwellings also of the wilderness are fat, that they drip; and the hills are merry round about.

The fields are full of sheep, and the meadows are thick with corn: they sing and rejoice.

Praise and glory to the wonderful works of God.

a psalm song to be sung. Rejoice to God, all the earth!

Sing ye praises unto his name: praise him gloriously.

Say unto God, How marvellous are thy works! Thine enemies shall fail before thy great power.

All the earth shall worship thee, and sing praise unto thee, and sing praise unto thy name. Sela.

Look, and behold the works of God, who is so wonderful in his works among the children of men.

He turneth the sea into dry land, that men may walk upon the face of the waters: we rejoice in him.

He reigneth with his power for ever: his eyes are upon the nations. The apostates shall not be able to exalt themselves. Sela.

Praise, ye nations, our God: let his praise be heard afar off, 9. Who keeps our souls in life, and does not let our feet slip.

For, O God, thou hast tried and refined us, as silver is refined.

Thou hast cast us into the tower; thou hast laid a burden upon our loins; 12. Thou hast caused men to pass over our heads: we are come in fire and in water: but thou hast brought us out, and hast refreshed us.

Therefore will I enter into thine house with burnt offerings, and pay thee my vows, 14. As I have opened my lips, and my mouth hath spoken in my trouble.

I will offer thee fat burnt offerings of burnt rams; I will offer oxen with rams. Selah.

Come, hear, all ye that fear God; and I will tell you what he hath done for my soul.

To him I cried with my mouth, and praised him with my tongue.

If I have wrought iniquity in my heart, the LORD will not hear.

Therefore God heareth me, and hearkeneth unto my supplications.

Praise be to God, who does not reject my prayer nor turn away his kindness from me.

Prayer and thanksgiving for God’s gracious blessings.

May God have mercy on us and bless us; may He make His face shine upon us, Sela, 3. That we may know his way upon earth, and his salvation among all nations.

The nations give thanks unto thee, O God: all nations give thanks unto thee.

The nations rejoice and exult, because thou judgest the people aright, and governest the people of the earth. Sela.

the land gives its crops. May God bless us, our God!

May God bless us, and may all the earth fear Him!
The 68th Psalm (^)
Prophecy of Christ’s exaltation and its glorious power.

a psalm of David, to be sung.

Let God arise, and let his enemies be scattered, and let them that hate him flee from him.

Drive them out as the smoke is driven out; as the wax melts from the fire, so must the wicked perish before God.

But the righteous must rejoice and be glad before God, and be glad from the heart.

Sing unto God, sing praises unto his name. Make ye way for him that cometh gently. His name is the LORD; and rejoice before him,

Who is a father of the fatherless and a judge of widows. He is GOD in His holy dwelling, 7. a God who gives the house full of children to the lonely, who brings out the captives in due time, and leaves the apostates in the drought.

God, when thou wentest before thy people, when thou walkedest in the wilderness, Selah, 9. Then the earth prayed, and the heavens trembled before this God in Sinai, before the God who is Israel’s God.

But now, O God, thou givest a gracious rain, and thou restorest thine inheritance, which is dry,

That thy beasts may dwell therein. God, you feed the wretched with your goods.

The LORD giveth the word with great multitudes of evangelists.

The kings of hosts are friends one to another, and the honour of the house divideth the spoil.

When ye lie in the field, they shine as the wings of doves, gleaming as silver and gold.

If the Almighty now and then set kings among them, then there is light where there is darkness.

The mountain of God is a fruitful mountain, a great and fruitful mountain.

Why do ye leap great mountains? God delighteth to dwell in this mountain, and the LORD
also dwelleth there for ever.

The chariot of God is many thousands of thousands: the LORD is among them in holy Sinai.

Thou hast gone up on high, and hast caught the prison; thou hast received gifts for men, even for the apostates, that God the LORD may abide there nevertheless.

Praise be to the LORD daily! GOD lays a burden on us, but He also helps us. Sela.

We have one God that helpeth, and the Lord GOD that saveth from death.

But God shall bruise the head of his enemies with the skull of their hair, who continue in their sin.

But thus saith the LORD, I will take some from among the fat men; out of the depth of the sea will I take some.

Therefore shall thy foot be dyed in the blood of the enemy, and thy dogs shall lick it.

Behold, O God, how thou walkest, how thou, my God and my King, walkest in the sanctuary.

The singers go before, and after them the minstrels among the maidservants that play.

Praise GOD the LORD in the assemblies for the fountain of Israel.

And there reigned among them little Benjamin, the princes of Judah with their companies, the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali.

Your God has established your kingdom. You, O God, will strengthen it for us, for it is your work.

For thy temple’s sake in Jerusalem shall the kings bring thee gifts.

He shall rebuke the beast that is in the reed, the herd of oxen among their calves, which tread under foot for money’s sake. He scattereth the nations, which love to get.

the princes of Egypt will come, Mohrenland will stretch out its hands to GOD.

Ye kingdoms of the earth, sing unto God, sing unto the LORD, selah, 34. To him that moveth in heaven from the beginning of the world. Behold, he shall give power unto his thunder.

Give God the power! His glory is in Israel, and His power in the clouds.

GOD is wondrous in His sanctuary. He is GOD of Israel; He will give power and strength to the people. Praise be to GOd!

The Messiah’s prayer in his suffering.

God, help me; for the water is come up to my soul.

I sink in deep mire, because there is no bottom: I am in deep water, and the flood will drown me.

I have cried with a sore voice, my throat is sore: my face is sore, because I have waited so long for my God.

They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head. They that are unreasonably hostile unto me, And destroy me, are mighty. I must pay for that which I have not stolen.

O God, thou knowest my folly, and my debts are not hid from thee.

Let not them that wait for thee, O LORD of hosts,
