the fear of the LORD a little, than great treasure, wherein is unrest.
Better is a dish of herbs with love, than a fatted bullock with hatred.
A man that is wroth maketh strife: but a man that is patient stilleth strife.
The way of the slothful is thorny: but the path of the upright is well prepared.
A wise son maketh his father glad: and a foolish man is a reproach to his mother.
Folly is a joy to a fool: but a man of understanding keepeth the right way.
The plots come to nought where there is no counsel; but where there is much counsel, they
stand.
It is a joy to one where he is answered aright; and a word in his season is very sweet.
The way of life is to make wise above, that one may avoid hell beneath.
The LORD will break up the house of the proud, and confirm the border of widows. .
The plots of the wicked are an abomination unto the LORD: but the pure speak comfortably.
The covetous man hateth his own house: but he that hateth the gift shall live.
The heart of the righteous deviseth what is to be answered: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil.
The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
A pleasant sight maketh the heart glad: a good report maketh the bones fat.
The ear that heareth the sentence of life shall dwell among the wise.
He that suffereth not himself to be drawn, destroyeth himself: but he that heareth punishment, becometh wise.
The fear of the LORD is discipline unto wisdom: and before a man is honoured, he must first suffer.

Chapter 16
Of God’s providence and government, and man’s duty.
Man setteth it before him in his heart; but from the LORD cometh that which the tongue shall speak.
Every man’s ways seem pure unto him: but the LORD only maketh the heart sure.
Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thine ordinances shall continue.
The LORD maketh all things for his own sake, even the wicked for an evil day.
A proud heart is an abomination unto the LORD, and shall not go unpunished, though they all cleave one to another.
By goodness and faithfulness iniquity is reconciled; and by the fear of the LORD evil is avoided.
If a man’s ways please the LORD, he will also please his enemies with him.
it is better to have little with justice than much income with injustice.
The heart of man beateth in his way, but the LORD only giveth to go his way.
Divination is in the mouth of the king: his mouth shall not fail in judgment.
Right scales and weights are of the LORD; and all the pounds in the sack are his works.
To do wrong in the sight of kings is an abomination: for by righteousness the throne is established.
Right counsel pleaseth kings: and he that counteth rightly is loved.
The king’s wrath is a messenger of death: but a wise man shall make reconciliation for him.
If the king’s face be gracious, it is life: and his mercy is as the evening rain.
Receive wisdom; for it is better than gold, and to have understanding is more precious than silver.
The way of the upright avoideth evil: and he that keepeth his way keepeth his life.
He that shall perish shall first be proud: and proud courage goeth before a fall.
It is better to be lowly in heart with the wretched, than to deal plunder with the proud.
He that leadeth a matter wisely findeth happiness: and good is he that trusteth in the LORD.
A man of understanding is praised for a wise man; and pleasant speeches teach well.
Prudence is a living fountain to him that hath it: but the discipline of fools is folly.
A wise heart speaketh wisely, and teacheth well.
The speeches of the kind are honeycomb, they comfort the soul, and refresh the bones.
Many a way pleaseth well; but his last reacheth unto death.
Many a man cometh to great misfortune by his own mouth.
27: A loose man digs for mischief, and fire burns in his mouth.
A perverse man causeth strife, and a slanderer maketh princes divided.
A wicked man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him not into a good way.
He that beckoneth with his eyes thinketh not good: and he that signifieth with his lips doeth
evil.
Gray hairs are a crown of honors found in the way of righteousness.
A patient man is better than a strong man, and he that is master of his own strength than he that triumpheth over cities.
The lot is cast into the bosom; but it falleth according to the will of the LORD.

Chapter 17
Of untimely quarrels and strife.
A dry morsel to be satisfied with is better than a house full of slaughter with strife.
A wise servant shall rule over indolent heirs, and shall divide the inheritance among the brethren.
As the fire is to silver, and the furnace to gold, so the LORD trieth the heart.
A wicked man hearkeneth unto evil mouths, and a false man loveth to obey pernicious tongues.
He that mocketh the needy scorneth his Maker: and he that rejoiceth in his mischief shall not go unpunished.
The crown of the ancients are their children, and the glory of the children are their fathers.
It is not fitting for a fool to speak of high things, much less for a prince to lie.
He that hath a gift is as a precious stone: whithersoever he turneth, he is esteemed wise.
He that covereth sin maketh friends: but he that stirreth up matters maketh princes divided.
A rebuke is more grievous to a man of understanding, than an hundred blows to a fool.
A bitter man seeketh to do harm: but a cruel angel shall come upon him.
It is better to meet a bear whose cubs are stolen, than a fool in his folly.
He that repayeth good with evil shall not depart from his house.
He that beginneth strife is like unto him that breaketh up the dam of the waters. Thou shalt cease from strife, ere thou be mixed therein.
He that justifieth the wicked, and condemneth the righteous, are both an abomination to the LORD.
What shall money in the hand of a fool buy wisdom, if he be a fool?
A friend loveth always, and a brother is found in trouble.
It is a fool that pledges himself to the hand, and becomes surety for his neighbour.
He that loveth strife loveth sin: and he that lifteth up his door calamities.
A perverse heart findeth no good: and he that is of a perverse tongue shall fall into mischief.
He that begetteth a fool hath sorrow; and the father of a fool hath no joy.
A merry heart maketh life merry: but a sorrowful spirit drieth the bones.
The wicked taketh gifts secretly, to bend the way of righteousness.
A man of understanding behaves wisely; a fool casts his eyes to and fro.
A foolish son is his father’s mourning, and grief to his mother that bare him.
It is not good that the righteous should be oppressed, to smite the prince that ruleth aright.
A man of understanding moderates his speech, and a man of understanding is a dear soul.
A fool, if he held his peace, would also be counted wise, and have understanding, if he held his peace.

Chapter 18
Of breaking up good friends.
He that separateth himself seeketh after that which he lusteth after, and setteth himself against all that is good.
a fool does not delight in his mind, but in what is in his heart.
Where the wicked goeth, there cometh contempt and reproach with scorn.
The words in one mouth are as deep waters, and the fountain of wisdom is a full stream.
It is not good to respect the person of the wicked, to bow down the righteous in judgment.
The lips of the fool bring forth strife, and his mouth crieth for blows.
The mouth of a fool doeth harm unto himself, and his lips do wrong unto his own soul.
the words of the slanderer are blows and go through one’s heart.
He that is slack in his work is a brother to him that doeth his own work.
The name of the LORD is a stronghold: the righteous walketh therein, and is protected.
The rich man’s goods are unto him a strong city, and as a high wall round about him.
If a man perish, his heart is proud first: and before he is honoured, he suffereth first.
He that answereth before he heareth is foolish and ashamed.
He that hath a merry heart knoweth how to bear himself in his affliction: but if courage lie, who can bear it?
15; An understanding heart knows how to keep itself sensible, and the wise hear gladly that one acts sensibly.
the gift of man makes room for him and brings him before the great lords.
The righteous is sure of his cause beforehand; and when his neighbour cometh, he findeth him so.
The lot setteth the strife, and divideth between the mighty.
A brother that is wounded is stronger than a strong city; and strife is stronger than the bars of the palace.
A man shall be recompensed according to that which his mouth hath spoken, and shall be satisfied with the fruit of his lips.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: he that loveth it shall eat of the fruit thereof.
He that findeth a wife findeth good, and getteth favour of the LORD.
a poor man speaks with supplication; a rich man answers proudly.
A faithful friend loveth more, and standeth stronger than a brother.

Chapter 19
Of contempt of the poor and moderation of wrath.
A poor man that walketh in his piety is better than a perverse man with his lips, who is yet a fool.
Where a man dealeth not wisely, it is not well: and he that is swift with his feet doeth hurt.
