In Thomistic theology, there are two ways for a thing to be self-evident, secundum se (in itself) and quoad nos (to us). The proposition that God exists is self-evident in itself, because God’s existence is identical with his essence; but it is not self-evident to us (humans), because humans are not directly acquainted with
